Historical Facts Of India

  1. Around 10% of the world’s population lived in the Indus Valley Civilization. They are urban people, and their way of living was much ahead of our present-day living. Their dancing girl statues represent our today’s classical dance form. They were the worshipper of Pashupati Mahadeva, which again connect us to our Lord Shiva.

2. Rigveda is the oldest and most religious Veda, written in Sanskrit. The Vedas are Apaurusheya, which means not written by humans.

 3, According to Anguttara Nikaya(a Buddhist scripture), 16 great kingdoms or Mahajanapadas emerged in the Vedic age. These Mahajanpad covers the present-day parts of India.

4. The national emblem(Ashoka Stambh) put on the roof of the new parliament, came from Mauryan king Ashoka’s time.

5. The world-renowned university Nalanda were built during their time. Scholars like Kalidasa, Aryabhata, and many more existed during the Gupta period.

Geographical Facts of India

6. India has six defined seasons. They are –

Spring/Vasant Ritu, Summer/Grishma Ritu, Monsoon/Varsha Ritu, Autumn/Sharad Ritu, Pre-winter/Hemant Ritu, and Winter/Shishir or Shita Ritu.

7. The Ganga Brahmaputra delta(Sunderban) is the largest in the world. 

8. The third pole of the Earth is the Himalayas. Himalaya is the youngest mountain range in the world. The only floating lake in the world is Loktak lake of Manipur, found in the Keibul Lamjao National Park.

9. Asiatic lion, Nilgiri Marten, Snow leopard, Sangai, Lion-tailed macaque, and Greater one-horned rhino are found only in India.

10. Reverse Waterfall found in Pune district (Maharashtra). This reverse waterfall appears during heavy monsoons when water flows upward due to high winds.

11. Among inhabited places on the Earth, Meghalaya has the wettest climate.

Military Facts

12. 5000 meters above sea level, the Siachen Glacier is the highest battlefield in the world.

13. In terms of ‘voluntary’ military forces, the Indian army is the world’s largest.

14. One of the most elite training centers in the world is the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) of the Indian Army.

15. It is also one of the main contributors to United Nations peacekeeping missions.

25. Golden temple Amritsar serves vegetarian meals/day to about 50,000 devotees.

26. The Krishna River Delta, the origin of diamond mining in India. It is 1st diamond mine found around 1,000 years ago.

Architecture of India

40. The richest temple in the world is Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala).

41. Indian temples are not the only place of worship. People use it for marriage ceremonies, social gatherings, and many more.

42. The highest rail bridge in the world is the Chenab bridge.

43. 19,300 feet high Ladakh road is the highest motorable road in the world.

44. Jaipur (Rajasthan) contains the largest sundial in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shadow is moving at about six centimeters per minute.

45. Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, measuring 600ft (182m) in height.

46. Vavs in Gujarat and baolis (or baoris) step wells is the fine example of engineering and architecture of that time (2nd and 4th centuries). Used to extract supply water from the deep water tables.

47. India not only has the largest network of postal services in the world, but its post office also floats on water. Found in Dal Lake, Srinagar.

48. The Indian Space Research Organization will send a humanoid robot to space named Vyom Mitra.

49. India become the first nation in the world to enter Mars on its first attempt. MOM(Mars Orbiter Mission) is also the cheapest mission.

50. IIT-Delhi and DRDO scientists successfully demonstrated the Quantum Key Distribution link over a 100-kilometer distance for the first time in the country.

51. A quantum communication link has been established between Vindhyachal in Uttar Pradesh and Prayagraj in Gujarat.

52. India is undergoing a network transformation that will bring about the development of 5G. With time, it will also enhance features to improve the network.

Personalities of India

53. Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian social reformer who worked against child labor in India. He is also a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Satyarthi’s work reflects on Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Global March Against Child Labour, Global Campaign for Education, Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, and Bal Ashram Trust.

54. Sindhutai Sapkal( Padma Shri) was an Indian social worker and activist. She dedicated her whole life to orphan upliftment. Everyone called her Mai means mother. 

55.. Indian tradition includes worship of rivers such as Mother Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, etc. India is also a nature worshipper country.

56. Mountain Man, Dashrath Manjhi carves a path of 110 m long (360 ft), 9.1 m (30 ft) wide, and 7.7 m (25 ft) deep through a ridge of hills using only a hammer and a chisel alone. It takes 22 years to complete.

60. Vinod Dham,’ Father of the Pentium Chip, is an Indian American. Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, belongs from Madurai, India.
